team Sunderland announced the suspension of their player, Jack Diamond, as Northumbria Police charged him with rape and .

The police apprehended the 23-year-old winger last May in Washington, Tyne, and Wear, where he's also due for court. He spent this season on loan to Lincoln City. The League one side immediately ended his loan deal following the news.

“Sunderland AFC has been notified that criminal charges have been brought against Jack Diamond by the Crown Prosecution Service,” said an official from the Black Cats.

“The player has been suspended with immediate effect, pending the outcome of the judicial process, and his loan agreement at Lincoln City Football Club has also been terminated.

“As this matter is subject to a legal process, the Club will not be making any further statement at this time.”

Diamond is part of similar incidents that have plagued footballers recently. Last February, authorities placed PSG star under investigation over rape allegations.

The list of notable footballers also under sexual assault charges includes Dani Alves along with Benjamin Mendy, Ronaldinho, Robinho, and Mason Greenwood.

Meanwhile, the rape accusations over Arsenal star Thomas Partey are still pending.
