Police called to Nicolo Zaniolo's house after he misses training

Irate AS Roma fans are surrounding Nicolo Zaniolo's house in Rome due to his possible transfer to Tottenham.

The 23-year-old Italian winger is a primary target for Premier League teams Spurs, Bournemouth, Everton, and Leeds as the January transfer window comes down to the wire.

The Cherries are on the brink of pulling out due to budget constraints, leaving the remaining English clubs to battle it out. Leeds view the attacking midfielder as a replacement for Leicester-bound Jack Harrison.

Zaniolo has missed 71 matches since the start of the 2020/21 season due to injury.

Fans screaming invective at Zaniolo

Fans came to Zaniolo's house after Roma's 2-1 loss to Napoli over the weekend, calling him a “piece of sh**t.” Now they're just calling him a traitor. The player, who missed practice earlier today, is staying in a nearby property as a protective measure and to focus on sorting out his future.

Diehard Roma fans have also placed banners outside Stadio Olimpico with expletives toward Zaniolo's mom. “All this hatred seems a little over the top,” responded his mother.

AS Roma boss Jose Mourinho remains perturbed by the saga, with the Portuguese boss saying, “Unfortunately he will be staying.”

How will Zaniolo's future play out on deadline day?
