Ousmane Dembélé out 10 weeks with thigh injury, will miss El Clasico

Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembélé has been ruled out ten weeks after suffering a right thigh injury.

The 22-year-old French starlet landed awkwardly when trying to score a goal in the 25th minute of Barcelona’s Group F match against Dortmund.

“A medical examination has confirmed that first team player Ousmane Dembélé has suffered a muscle injury to the biceps femoris of his right hamstring,” writes the club’s website. “His estimated layoff time is approximately 10 weeks.”

The French forward could be seen in tears as left the pitch on Wednesday night. Some Barca fans booed the incident, frustrated to see Dembele go down yet again.

Luis Suarez pleads doctors to help Dembele find a solution

Dembele has been plagued by injuries since his arrival at Camp Nou in 2017, missing a total of 55 games to date.  The latest, his ninth injury, will see him miss the season’s first El Clasico scheduled for December 18.

“The doctors have to try and find a solution to his injuries,” Suarez said after Wednesday’s clash against Dortmund. “[They have to find out] how he keeps getting injured after he has recovered. We hope he’s back with us soon.”

According to Barca Times, Dembele may need surgery to prevent further relapses.

More importantly, Dembele’s nagging injury problems could signal his departure. He’s already upset Barcelona coaches with his off-field behavior. The youngster failed to report a left hamstring knock in the season opener against Valencia.

The good news for Barcelona is that they have plenty of reinforcements, including La Liga veteran Antoine Griezmann and rising star Ansu Fati.
