Arsenal loanee Martin Ødegaard will be headed back to Real Madrid this summer.

The Gunners were hoping to secure a permanent deal for the 22-year-old midfielder given that they lost out on EmiIano Buendia to at the last moment.

Odegard told TV 2 Norway that new Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has made it clear that he wants the Norwegian back at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Given the financial crunch caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, Real Madrid are unlikely to conduct much transfer business this summer. Los Blancos spent a whopping €250 million-plus on signings just two summers ago.

Odegaard should also expect more playing time given that Toni Kroos and Luca Modric are in their 30s.

Odegaard wasted no time in breaking into the Arsenal first-team where he notched 2 and 2 assists in 19 appearances for the Gunners. The playmaker's absence means that Arsenal's search for a number 10 continues. James Maddison is said to be on top of Arteta's wishlist.
