Lionel Messi spent $36 Million on rare Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti

Lionel Messi, one of the highest-paid footballers in the world, once spent a whopping $36 million on a one-of-a-Kind Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti.

That’s reportedly the most expensive car ever.

For the record, that exceeds Michael Jordan’s single-season NBA earnings when the basketball legend made $33 million during the 1997/98 season. MJ remained the highest-paid NBA player before Stephen Curry broke it two decades later.

Meanwhile, a $36 million Ferrari is roughly half the salary Messi will receive at PSG this season. The 35-year-old rakes in an additional $48m through endorsements with Adidas, Gatorade, Lay’s, Pepsi, Pro Evolution Soccer — the list goes on.

Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain are actively working towards finalizing an agreement to extend the Argentine forward’s contract, which is currently set to expire in June.

Cristiano Ronaldo still dwarfs Messi’s total annual salary by earning a $213 million per year contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr.

Messi’s outbid Ronaldo for the iconic antique Ferrari

Even more, Messi beat out arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo in bidding for the antique car at the auction in 2016. The bidding kicked off $21 million.

Messi joked about the purchase of the 1957 Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti by posting with a micro-machine on Instagram.

“My new car,” he wrote in the post.

British Formula One racing driver Sir Stirling Moss drove the famed red car in the Cuban Grand Prix in 1958.

Since then, the Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti has become a symbol of the golden age of motorsports.

There are only four of these coveted sports cars ever produced. And one of the greater footballers in the world is proud to own one.

What’s the most expensive thing you own?
